The Aubrey independent school district in Texas is naming its new Elementary School No 5 after Marilyn Hampton, a retired district custodian.
Hampton worked as a custodian for the district for 39 years before retiring in 2022.
Officials say she bought school supplies for children in need, helped students with their assignments and staffed the ticket booth at football games.
The honour was revealed at a 21 October board meeting, where Superintendent Shannon Saylor asked her to unroll a red carpet reading "Marilyn Hampton Elementary School".
"I still can't believe it," Hampton later told the Dallas-Fort Worth station WFAA.
The school is under construction and scheduled to open in August.
